Under the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2013, Liverpool Cemetery gives notice of the possible revocation of grave interment rights issued prior to
1 January 1970.
The proposed revocation only affects graves that do not contain burials. In the event that the interment right holder of the unused graves listed below cannot be identified or located, it is the cemetery’s intention to cancel the interment right in these graves.
The persons listed below (or their next of kin) may claim their entitlement by contacting Liverpool Cemetery by phone or email.

What does revocation mean?
Revocation is an annulment or cancellation of an agreement. In the context of contracts, revocation may refer to the offeror canceling an offer.
Why is Liverpool Cemetery revoking graves?
Liverpool Cemetery is nearing full capacity for new grave sites. The revocation process allows us to identify and claim back unused graves that may have been forgotten or abandoned.
A perpetual interment right must be used within 50 years of purchase. If it is not used, the cemetery operator can revoke the right.
I purchased a grave in 1990 - will this grave be affected by the revocation?
No, only graves purchased more than 50 years ago and still unused can be “revoked” at the present time.
Is Liverpool Cemetery trying to get in contact with the current owners of the graves involved?
Yes, Liverpool Cemetery is required to make reasonable efforts to contact the registered holder of the interment rights for the graves listed.
This includes putting up signs at the cemetery and sending letters to last known address (via registered post) and next of kin (if noted). We are also required to advertise in the NSW Government Gazette and a state-circulated newspaper.
However, in some cases the only information we have is the name of the registered holder which makes tracing difficult.
Can interment right holders keep the grave if they do not wish to sell it?
Yes, before or during the notice period, an interment right holder can negotiate with the cemetery operator to either keep or sell the perpetual interment right. Please contact Liverpool Cemetery on (02) 9649 6423 to discuss your options.
